Yankees Sprint Past Phillies

The Yankees (2-3) used an 11-run 4th inning to coast to a mercy rule victory over the Phillies (0-6) on Friday evening in Mount Union.

The Yankees were leading 3-0 when the team exploded for 11 runs with two outs in top of the 4th inning.

The Yankees got started in the top of the 1st inning. Ian Brodbeck singled and scored on a combination of wild pitches and passed balls.

The Yankees tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Brodbeck led the inning off with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Robert Secrest reached on a fielder's choice and Tristan Moyer drove him in with a single to make it 3-0.

The Yankees finished the game off with their huge 4th inning. After a pair of strikeouts, Brodbeck tripled again. Braydon Naple drove him home when he reached on an error by Carson Brubaker. Secrest singled and moved around to second on an error by Shakor Fortson. Naple scored on the play. Eric Rhodes singled home Secrest and moved to second on a throwing error by Trevor Price. Moyer drove in Rhodes with another single. Ryan Welch reached on an infield single and moved all the way to third on a throwing error by Aiden Chrisemer. Moyer scored on the error and Welch scored on a passed ball. Hayden Rhodes drew a walk and scored on a passed ball. Cyrus Banks, Alexander Kyle, and Brodbeck all drew walks and scored with the help of wild pitches and passed balls. Naple singled and scored the final run on a wild pitch as well.

Brodbeck (2-1) picked up the victory for the Yankees. He threw all 4 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.

Chrisemer (0-3) worked 3-2/3 innings for the Phillies. He allowed 9 runs, 3 earned, on 10 hits. He struck out 6 batters. Fortson relieved Chrisemer and walked all 4 hitters he faced. All 4 batters later scored unearned runs. Brubaker finished the final 1/3 of an inning giving up 1 unearned run on a walk.

Brodbeck went 3-for-3 with 2 triples and Eric Rhodes went 2-for-2 for the Yankees.

The Yankees now hold a 2-0 lead in the five-game season series. The two teams will tangle again on Wednesday, May 8th in Mount Union.
