Dodgers Walk Past Yankees

The Dodgers (2-0) used 16 walks to help lead them to a 15-2 victory over the Yankees (0-2) on Thursday night at Upper Municipal Park in Mount Union.

The Dodgers brought their entire lineup to the plate in three different innings and worked Yankee starter Braydon Naple (0-1) and reliever Eric Rhodes through all 75 of their pitches.

The Dodgers got the scoring started in the top of the 1st inning when Dawson Booher got on with a one out single. Booher later scored the first run on a wildpitch.

The Dodgers added three more runs in the top of the 2nd. Jeffery Crotsley reached on a fielder's choice. Joey Barnish drew a one out walk. Crotsley scored on a pair of passed balls. Cole Hicks drove in Barnish with an RBI groundout. Booher walked and came in to score when Rhys Bumgardner drew a bases-loaded walk. The Dodgers would bring their entire lineup to the plate in the inning, but they left the bases loaded before they could do further damage.

The Dodgers grabbed another pair of runs in the top of the 3rd. Aaron Kough and Crotsley reached on back-to-back errors by Yankee firstbaseman Payton Edgin to start the inning. Barnish then drove Kough home. Booher drove in Crotsley later in the inning.

In the top of the 5th, the Dodgers pushed the lead to 10-0 with four more runs. Booher, Park, Dell, and Bumgardner drew four straight one out walks. All four runners would later score on wild pitches.

The Yankees saved themselves from a mercy-rule loss in the bottom of the 5th inning. Michael Chilcote drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on Ian Brodbeck's fly-ball that Dodger centerfield Bumgardner dropped. Eric Rhodes singled driving in Chilcote, and an error by Dodger thirdbaseman Kough allowed Brodbeck to score as well.

The Dodgers added five more in the top of the 6th inning. Hicks leadoff with a walk and Booher was hit by a full-count pitch. Tristan Moyer relieved Rhodes and gave up an RBI single to Park that scored Hicks. Booher scored on a wildpitch during Dell's at-bat. Dell and Bumgardner drew back-to-back walks. Both would later score on wildpitches themselves. Caleb Barnett singled and later scored on an error by Tristan Moyer to set the 15-2 final score.

It wasn't all offense for the Dodgers, as Dell (1-0) tossed 4⅔ innings striking out 11. He gave up 2 runs, neither earned, on 3 hits and 2 walks. Park finished off the game for the Dodgers going 1⅓ innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 1.

The Yankees pitchers never found their groove and tossed 182 total pitches in the game. Naple worked 2⅓ innings giving up 6 runs, 3 earned, on 2 hits. He walked 5 Dodgers and struckout just 2. Rhodes had similar stats in his 2⅔ innings pitched. He gave up 6 runs, all earned, walked 8, and struckout 6. Moyer worked the final inning, giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 2 hits and 3 walks. He struckout a pair.

The Dodgers and Yankees will play their only other contest of the season on June 3rd in Trough Creek.
